Twin Pregnancy Diary

Bigger and Bigger
(Originally posted May 2, 2001)--How big will they get? That's the question that was on our minds when we left the doctor's office after our May 1 ultrasound. We did our second full ultrasound and got a thumbs-up from the doctor, who told us that as of Week 31, Day 5, Baby B checks in at 4 lbs, 2 oz, and Baby A checks in at 3 lbs, 11 oz.

The weight difference between the twins isn't enough to get overly concerned with yet; plus they both have good amniotic fluid levels so the doctors feel encouraged about that. Our OB-Gyn said Diane was in great shape when she saw her last week and thinks she can probably carry these twins for at least six more weeks, which would put her in week 37.

More good news is that both twins are still head-down so the doctor seems to think it could be a natural delivery if they both stay in that position. Actually just as long as Baby A stays in that position, she could still deliver both twins naturally. We're hoping there's not enough room for them to turn at this late stage so they'll stay just the way they are.

This past weekend, we did the one day crash course on Lamaze Training and had a really good teacher and enjoyed the class. Since we're going to be first-time parents, we thought the class was most helpful in teaching us how to recognize and time contractions and the various stages of labor as well as teaching both Diane and Craig (a/k/a 'Coach') how to breathe.

One thing 'Coach' didn't enjoy hearing was that Diane might take out her labor pains on him. But the Lamaze teacher explained that would only be because she loves him so much and of the people in the room (doctors, nurses and 'Coach'), that's who she would feel most comfortable taking out her aggression on. So 'Coach' wants it to be known that he'll take whatever Diane dishes his way. It's all in the labor of love...

Diane continues to monitor her blood pressure every day and since the readings have been normal, she's being allowed to continue working full-time. The doctor appointments are now weekly and we have another full ultrasound scheduled for May 29.

We'll keep thinking good thoughts and taking care of the twins. They are getting bigger and bigger and we'll find out their sexes and personalities soon enough! Their profiles already show us how cute they are, and we learned in this week's ultrasound that each has at least a little hair. We'll update you again soon.

they won't know which is Baby A and which is Baby B?"
